Rapid technological advancements in the automotive industry continue to create the need for skilled service technicians.  This trend, expected to continue for the next decade, requires technical education programs to be innovative and practical in their approach to helping students obtain required job skills.

The Automotive Service Technology Program at South Plains College has responded to this challenge by designing a flexible training program to meet the workforce needs of the automotive service industry.  State-of-the-art classroom and lab facilities are housed at the Levelland campus located at 1401 College Ave. at the Auto-Diesel Building in Levelland, Texas.

The program is Certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence in all eight specialty training areas that form the core of the program's curriculum.  Students completing the training sequence in each of the specialties learn skills which meet ASE industry standards.  Each student also has the opportunity to take the ASE exams.


 
       
 
AST at SPC offers two, one year certificates of proficiency which are attained upon successful completion of the technical training courses as outlined in the college catalog. Also, an Associate of Applied Science degree is granted upon successful completion of an additional 21 hours of general academic courses.
 
Update August 2007
AST at SPC is also very excited to announce the Seamless Automotive Technology Program in partnership with the College of Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University.  Students can begin automotive training in high school, transfer credits to South Plains College, then continue their automotive training  toward a BSME at Texas Tech University.
