SPC Finishes Second at Tech CC Meet
LUBBOCK – The South Plains College men's and women's cross country teams both ran to second-place finishes at the Red Raider Jackrabbit Open on the Texas Tech campus Friday.
The SPC men finished with 55 points, good for second place overall behind Texas Tech (35 points). Abilene Christian was third (56) and Wayland Baptist was fourth (97).
In the men's 5-mile race, SPC's John Kosgei placed second (23:17.40), Fred Samoei was sixth (24:08.30), Josphat Melly was 18th (26:02.50), Javier Perez was 19th (26:06.20), Jorge Castillo was 25th (26:31.90), Mike Hernandez was 27th (26:41.80), T.K. Revis was 28th (26:42.30), Chris Salazar was 38th (27:23.60) and Mike Hernandez was 39th (27:24.70).
The SPC women also finished second overall with 60 points. Texas Tech, led by former SPC All-American Sally Kipyego, took first place with 29 points. Abilene Christian was third (72 points) and Wayland Baptist was fourth (76).
In the women's 3-mile race, SPC's Lillian Badaru placed third (16:22.70), Florence Jepchirchir was seventh (17:30.50), Gladys Chumba was 11th (17:51.10), Crystal Dickinson was 21st (18:58.00), Meagan Willingham was 25th (19:16.60), Jessica Kirchner was 34th (19:58.50), Melinda Burrola was 38th (20:18.80), Megan Erickson was 43rd (20:26.40) and Angelina Williams was 52nd (21:19.80).
South Plains will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Las Vegas, NM to compete in the New Mexico Highlands Invite. |
