Cross Country Ready for NJCAA Championships

The South Plains Cross Country team will be traveling to Spartanburg, SC for the NJCAA Championships on Saturday, November 8. The men will be fielding a team of seven runners, while the women will travel with two individuals.

Head Cross Country Coach Chris Beene believes his athletes are ready to take on the best the NJCAA has to offer.

"I believe Gladys Chumba and Meagan Willingham are ready to run, and have a great chance to come back to South Plains College as All American athletes. They are both sophmores and I believe will show coaches at four year schools that they can be major contributors for their teams." Beene said.

When asked what he felt about his men's chances to bring home a title, Beene responded, "There are five or six teams who have a chance to win the team championship and we are fortunate enough to be one of them. If we go to Spartanburg and run how we have run all year, then I like our chances, but it will not be easy."

The Texan cross country team goes into the NJCAA meet ranked number two in the nation. The Texans will be represented by: Sophmores Fred Samoei, Mitchell Driver, and Anthony Perez. The Texan freshmen are: Tallam Kipruto, Anthony Pequeno, Derek Brest, and Robert Castanon.
