SPC Sweeps Regional CC Titles
The South Plains College men's and women's cross country teams won titles at the Region V Championships Saturday in Snyder.
The SPC men had a perfect score of 15 points after sweeping the top five spots. John Kosgei easily outdistanced the field with a time of 21:45 to place first. Jay Wilson finished second (23:05), Josphat Melly was third (23:06), Michael Hernandez placed fourth (23:24), T.K. Revis was fifth (23:25) and Chase Wade was 14th (24:58). El Paso Community College placed second with 42 points and Western Texas College was third.
The SPC women were also dominant, sweeping the top three places and finishing first as a team with 25 points. El Paso Community College was second with 42 points, New Mexico Junior College was third (54) and Western Texas College was fourth (95).
SPC's Lillian Badaru finished first overall with a time of 16:21. Happy Mary Bacia was second (17:11), Gus Newmeyer was third (18:05), Mary Patuel was eighth (19:19) and Fernanda Esquivel was 11th (21:22).
Both the Texans and Lady Texans will compete at the NJCAA National Championships in El Paso on Nov. 4.
