SPC Men Hold Off Eastern Arizona 65-63
The South Plains College Texans outrebounded the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 34-33, and it turned out that one extra rebound was huge.
SPC's Carlos Dos Santos pulled down a rebound of a Eastern Arizona missed free throw with 0.5 seconds remaining to preserve a 65-63 win for the Texans. Eastern was behind 65-61 with less than a second left, but the Texans (6-0) fouled on a missed 3-point attempt. Eastern Arizona made the first two free throws and missed the third intentionally, but Dos Santos was there for the rebound.
The game was back-and-forth in the first half as the Gila Monsters shot 52 percent friend the field and took a 33-28 lead into halftime. The Texans came out and played better after halftime. SPC led by 12 (56-44) before letting Eastern Arizona claw their way back at the end.
Jonathan Hall was almost unstoppable in the first half and finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. David Tairu added 15 points, Nick Okorie scored 11, Landon Tatum had 7, Dos Santos added 5, Lu Griffin scored 4, Hugh Mingo had 3 and Luciano de Souza added 2.
For Eastern Arizona, Nikola Kecman scored 13 points and Chop Tang added 12.
