Texans Knock Off No. 3 Midland

Four players scored in double figures as the South Plains College Texans knocked off No. 3 ranked Midland College 103-81 Monday at the Texan Dome.

South Plains (11-0 overall, 2-0 conference) jumped out to a 5-0 lead and only trailed once and that was with just over 5 minutes gone by in the first half. The Texans used a 14-0 run to take a 25-12 lead and they never looked back from there.

Midland (11-1, 1-1) pulled within 6 (36-30) with 4:57 remaining in the first half, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way. A 12-0 run helped SPC take a 50-34 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, Midland never got closer than 13 points, while SPC pushed their lead to as much as 28 late in the game.

Luciano de Souza led the Texans with 23 points, while Nick Okorie and David Tairu each added 19 and Hugh Mingo scored 18. Also for SPC, Landon Tatum had 8, Carlos Dos Santos scored 6, Lu Griffin added 4, Kendrick Johnson had 3, Tiago Jabur scored 2 and Philip Outley added 1.

For Midland, Tyrone Appleton and Greg Hill, Jr. each scored 16.

The Texans will look to remain unbeaten Thursday when they host Western Texas College.
