Texans Fall To No. 8 Midland

MIDLAND – For the first time this year, the No. 6 South Plains College Texans shot less than 40 percent from the field in a 75-63 loss to No. 8 Midland College Monday.

The Texans (20-2 overall, 8-2 conference) especially struggled in the first half when they made just 9 of 26 field goal attempts (35 percent). They ended the game shooting 39 percent from the field and were 2 of 12 (17 percent) on 3-point attempts.

Despite the poor shooting, the Texans stayed in the game in the first half. There were eight lead changes and six ties in the first half. Midland used a run at the end of the half that included a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to take a 34-25 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Texans never got closer than 9. They struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 1 of 8 on 3-point attempts in the final 20 minutes.

David Tairu came off the bench to lead SPC with 16 points, while Nick Okorie added 14, Jonathan Hall had 13 points and 11 rebounds, Lu Griffin scored 8, Landon Tatum added 7, Carlos Dos Santos had 3 and Phillip Outley scored 2.

For Midland (21-3, 7-3), Darris Santee and Greg Hill, Jr., both scored 17 points.
