South Plains Easily Defeats NMJC

HOBBS, N.M. – Five South Plains College players scored in double figures as the No. 5 ranked Texans defeated the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds 93-72 Monday in Hobbs.

The Texans (19-1 overall, 7-1 conference) only led 34-33 at halftime, but outscored the T-Birds 59-39 in the second half to put the game away.

Jonathan Hall led SPC with 20 points, while Nick Okorie added 15, Luciano de Souza had 14, Carlos Dos Santos scored 12 and David Tairu added 10. Also for SPC, Landon Tatum had 7 points, Hugh Mingo and Lu Griffin both scored 6 and Kendrick Johnson added 3.

For the Thunderbirds, Josh Smith had 17 points.

The Texans will be back at home Thursday when they open the second half of WJCAC play against Frank Phillips College.
