Texans Lose Heartbreaker to Odessa

The South Plains College Texans went scoreless for the last 2:50 of the game as the Odessa College Wranglers came from behind down the stretch for a 70-65 win at the Texan Dome in Levelland.

With the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and a crowd of more than 2,500 in attendance, the Texans (21-4 overall, 9-4 conference) erased an 11-point deficit to take a 65-61 lead with 2:50 remaining in the game. But their offense went cold from there and Odessa (24-2, 11-1) scored 9 straight points to take the victory.

In the first half, there were six ties and 10 lead changes. But just like in the second half, the Texans had trouble scoring down the stretch. SPC only made two field goals in the final 6:15 of the half as Odessa took a 35-29 lead into halftime.

Midway through the second half, the Wranglers had stretched their lead to 54-43. But over the next 6 minutes, the Texans used a full-court press to get back in the game. South Plains used a 12-0 run to take their 4-point lead with less than 3 minutes remaining before Odessa came back for the win.

Jonathan Hall had 21 points to lead SPC, while David Tairu and Luciano de Souza each added 11, Carlos Dos Santos scored 10, Landon Tatuym and Nick Okorie each had 4, and Kendrick Johnson and Hugh Mingo both added 2.

For Odessa, Jamel Guyton scored 21 points.
