South Plains Wallops Wayland JV

Seven South Plains College players scored in double figures as the Texans had an easy time with the Wayland Baptist University JV, defeating the Pioneers 132-74 Tuesday at the Texan Dome.

South Plains (5-0) shot 70 percent from the field and had double-figure dunks in the game, which the Texans led by as much as 63.

Freshman Hugh Mingo came off the bench and made 11 of his 15 field goal attempts. Mingo led SPC with 25 points. Another freshman, Carlos Dos Santos, also came off the bench to score 20 points and pull down 10 rebounds. Also for SPC, David Tairu had 18 points, Luciano de Souza scored 15, Lu Griffin had 12, Ladarius Hall added 11, Jonathan Hall scored 10, Kendrick Johnson had 8, Phillip Outley added 6, Nick Okorie scored 5 and Landon Tatum pitched in 2. Eighty-eight of SPC's points came from players not in the starting lineup.

For Wayland JV, Josh Weiss led the way with 22 points.

South Plains will host the Texan Classic Friday and Saturday at the Texan Dome. SPC will face Eastern Arizona Friday at 7 p.m., and will take on Collin Saturday at 3 p.m.
