Texans Pound Clarendon 104-74

LEVELLAND – After falling behind 22-12, the South Plains College Texans closed the first half on a 39-8 run and never looked back en route to a 104-74 win over the Clarendon College Bulldogs Monday at the Texan Dome.

The win improved SPC's record to 14-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Clarendon scored a pair of 3-pointers and added a dunk as they raced out to a 10-point lead less than five minutes into the game. But 10 straight points from freshman Luciano DeSouza helped the Texans tie things up in just two minutes of game action. SPC took their first lead (26-25) on a field goal by Jordan Frosch with 9:46 remaining in the half and they never trailed after that.

South Plains closed the half on a 35-3 run to take a 51-30 lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs got as close as 14 in the second half. South Plains led 80-64 with 7:14 left in the game, but the Texans used a 17-0 scoring run to put the game out of reach. Jonathan Hall scored 9 points during that stretch.

Five different players scored in double figures for the Texans. Hall led the way with 19 points, Steve Harley added 17, Delawn Armwood hit four 3-pointers and scored 16, DeSouza had 12 and Jermaine Bolden added 10. Also for SPC, Frosch and Nick Okorie each added 9, Lu Griffin scored 6, Constantin Motnii had 4 and Justin Brown added 2.

For Clarendon, Nick Hatcher had 25 points and Earl Rabb added 15.

The Texans will be back at home Thursday to host Odessa at 7:50 p.m.
