Texans Stay In First Place

CLARENDON – Steve Harley scored 21 points, Nick Okorie added 20 and Jonathan Hall had 18 points and 17 rebounds as the South Plains Texans stayed atop the WJCAC standings with a 93-68 win over Clarendon College Thursday in Clarendon.

The Texans are now 21-5 overall and 10-2 in conference play. They have a one game lead over both Midland College and Frank Phillips College, who are both 9-3.

Against Clarendon, the Texans never trailed after the first five minutes. SPC was down 10-8 early but used a 12-0 run that started and ended with baskets by Okorie to go ahead 20-10. Clarendon came back to get within 3 (22-19), but the Texans quickly regained a double-digit lead and went into halftime ahead 45-34.

Early in the second half, the Bulldogs managed to pull within five (50-45), but they made only eight field goals in the final 14:58 of the game as the Texans increased their lead to as much as 28.

In addition to the double-digit scoring nights from Harley, Okorie and Hall, Luciano DeSouza scored 8 points and had 10 rebounds, Lu Griffin added 7 points, Malik Motnii and Jermaine Bolden each had 6, Delawn Armwood scored 5 and Justin Brown added 2. The Texans outrebounded the Bulldogs 58-33.

Tommy Lane led Clarendon with 13 points.

South Plains will be back on the road Monday when they travel to Odessa College.
