SPC Men Cruise Past Frank Phillips
LEVELLAND – Three South Plains College Texans scored at least 25 points in a 98-72 victory over Frank Phillips College Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.
Nick Okorie had 28 points, Malik Motnii scored 26 and Steve Harley added 25 for the Texans, who shot 60 percent from the field for the game.
The Texans (12-3 overall, 1-0 conference) never trailed in the game. They had a 9-point lead on three different occasions in the first half, but Frank Phillips (8-7 overall, 0-1 conference) rallied to tie things up at 41-41 at halftime.
The second half was all SPC as the Texans used the inside play of Motnii and a dunk by Okorie to go ahead by 11 halfway through the second half. South Plains then went on a 15-0 run highlighted by an alley-oop slam from Okorie to push the lead to 85-59 with 8:18 left in the game.
Jonathan Hall added 10 points for SPC, while Jermaine Bolden, Jordan Frosch, Lu Griffin and Khari Thompson each scored 2, and Delawn Armwood added 1.
For Frank Phillips, Jason Rogers hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 25 points.
South Plains will travel to Midland College to face the Chaps on Monday. Midland opened conference play Saturday with an upset win over No. 5 Howard College in Big Spring.
