Buzzer Beater Lifts SPC to Win Over Howard
BIG SPRING – Jermaine Bolden wasn't having the best shooting night of his
career, but no one will remember the shots that didn't go in. Instead,
everyone will remember the last one that did go in.
Bolden banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lead the South Plains College
Texans to a 72-69 win over the Howard College Hawks Thursday in Big Spring.
Bolden, who had made just 3 of 11 shots before hitting the game winner, got
an inbounds pass with 4 seconds remaining and dribbled to the top of the key
where he got off the winning shot just before the horn sounded.
The final shot capped off a furious comeback by the Texans (17-4 overall,
6-1 conference), who trailed by as many as 11. The Texans still trailed by 8
with 13 minutes remaining when they used a 13-1 that included three
3-pointers by Delawn Armwood and two field goals by Steve Harley to take
their first lead.
Howard (16-5, 3-4) regained the lead and was up 69-65 with 1:28 remaining,
but Harley hit back-to-back shots to tie things up with 56 seconds
remaining. The game remained tied until Bolden nailed the game winner.
Harley led SPC with 26 points, while Armwood added 12, Bolden had 11, Malik
Motnii scored 8, Luciano DeSouza added 7, and Nick Okorie and Jonathan Hall
each had 4.
For Howard, Terrance Hill had 18 and Brandon Sampay added 15.
