Texans Open Season with 114-53 Win

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College Texans basketball team started the 2006-07 season with an easy 114-53 win over the Lubbock Christian University JV Chaps on Nov. 1 at the Texan Dome.

The Texans (1-0) never trailed in the game, but had to shake off a pesty Chap effort in the first half. LCU hung around for the first 15 minutes of the game, but SPC finished the first half with a surge and poured it on in the second half. South Plains led 53-36 at halftime, then outscored LCU 61-17 in the second half.

Every Texan player who saw the court scored and seven different players scored in double figures. Freshman Jonathan Hall led the way with 21 points and eight rebounds, while fellow freshman Lu Griffin made eight of 10 shots and finished with 16 points. Nick Okorie added 12 points, Luciano DeSouza and Steven Harley each had 11, and Jermaine Bolden and Dustin Hawkins both scored 10.

Also for SPC, Delawn Armwood added eight, Khari Thompson scored six, Constantin Motnii had four, Justin Brown added three and Jordan Frosch scored two. Brown also dished out nine assists and Motnii pulled down nine rebounds.

For Lubbock Christian JV, Adrian Davis made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, while Justin Tatum added 15 points.
