Midland Defeats Texans in Finals
BELTON - The Midland Chapparals won the Region V Championship with a 90-82 win over the South Plains College Texans Sunday in Belton.
South Plains' season ended with a record of 26-7.
Midland closed out the first half strong and took a 35-34 lead into halftime. The Chaps built their lead to 11 as the second half went on and were up 75-64 with 4:11 remaining. The Texans came back and got within 4 (86-82) with 18 seconds remaining, but Tyrone Appleton hit seven free throws in the final minute of the game to help the Chaps hold on for the win.
For SPC, Steve Harley finished his Texan career with 27 points, while Lu Griffin added 16, Malik Motnii scored 12, Luciano DeSouza had 10, Jermaine Bolden had 6, Nick Okorie added 5, Jonathan Hall had 4 and Delawn Armwood scored 2.
For Midland, Rodrigue Mels had 24 and Jordan Brooks scored 22.
