Midland Races Past Texans 88-67

MIDLAND – The Midland College Chaps used a 15-0 run to take a 23 point first-half lead and eventually led by as many as 31 en route to an 88-67 win over the South Plains College Texans Monday at the Chap Center in Midland.

It was close early as SPC took a 10-7 lead five minutes into the game. After tying things up at 12, Midland scored the next 11 points to go ahead 23-12 with 8:19 remaining in the first half. A 4-point play by Nick Okorie brought the Texans within 7, but Midland used that 15-0 run over the next four minutes to go ahead 38-16. The Chaps continued their strong play to end the half and led 51-26 at halftime.

Things didn't get much better in the second half for SPC as the Texans never got closer than 20. Midland's largest lead came with 5:02 remaining when they went ahead 81-50.

Malik Motnii led SPC with 27 points and 13 rebounds, while Okorie added 12 points, Jonathan Hall scored 10, Steve Harley had 7, Jordan Frosch added 4, Delawn Armwood scored 3, and Justin Brown and Luciano DeSouza each added 2.

For Midland, Nemanja Calasan scored 21 and Tyrone Appleton added 17.

South Plains is now 12-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
