SPC Rallies Past NMMI 88-78
ROSWELL, N.M. – The South Plains College Texans rallied from an 11-point
first-half deficit to defeat the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos 88-78
Saturday night in a WJCAC game in Roswell, N.M.
The Texans (16-4 overall, 5-1 conference) came out flat in the first half
and NMMI took advantage. Marcus Smith hit three 3-pointers in the first 10
minutes of the game as NMMI raced out to a 34-23 lead. SPC sophomore post
Constantin Motnii helped the Texans get back into the game. Motnii scored 12
points in the final 5:42 of the half as South Plains got within four (45-41)
at halftime.
The Broncos kept the lead until SPC's Delawn Armwood nailed a 3-pointer to
put the Texans ahead 56-53 with 13:42 left in the game. NMMI quickly
regained the lead and went up by as many as four before the Texans used a
9-0 run that included two buckets by Armwood and Steve Harley and one by
Jonathan Hall to take the lead for good.
Motnii led SPC with 18 points, while Harley had 16, Hall added 14 and Nick
Okorie scored 13. Also for the Texans, Jermaine Bolden had 9 points and 8
assists, Armwood scored 8, and Lu Griffin and Luciano DeSouza each added 5.
For NMMI, Brandon Rogers finished with 18 points and Taichien Dickerson
added 15.
The Texans will be back in action Thursday in Big Spring against Howard
College.
