Harley Leads SPC Over Odessa
ODESSA – Steve Harley scored 11 points in the final 8 minutes to help South Plains College come back from a 13-point deficit to defeat Odessa College 67-64 Monday to stay atop the WJCAC standings.
SPC (22-5 overall, 11-2 overall) were down 57-44 with 11:22 remaining in the game, but two field goals by Harley, one by Jonathan Hall and a 3-pointer by Nick Okorie brought the Texans within 4 with 8:47 left. After an Odessa basket to push their lead back to 6, SPC went on a 12-0 run led by 9 points from Harley to go up 65-59.
Odessa (18-8, 6-6) came back thanks to a 3-pointer by Jamel Guyton to get within 1 with 1:45 left in the game. But the only basket from that point on was a breakaway dunk from Okorie in the final 10 seconds to seal the win.
Harley finished with 23 points and Okorie added 22. Also for the Texans, Malik Motnii and Jonathan Hall each scored 8, Delawn Armwood added 4 and Jermaine Bolden scored 2.
For Odessa, Guyton led the way with 17 points.
The Texans will host New Mexico Military Institute on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and will be back at home on Monday for a showdown with Howard College.
