Texans Outshoot Temple 92-80

LUBBOCK – The South Plains College men's basketball team went 9 of 10 from the 3-point line and freshman guard Nick Okorie scored 27 points as the Texans defeated Temple College 92-80 Saturday in the Texan Classic at Lubbock Christian University's Rip Griffin Center.

Okorie hit 9 of his 12 shots including 7 of 8 on 3-pointers as the Texans improved to 6-2 on the season.

South Plains trailed by as many as six early in the first half, but Okorie hit a pair of 3-pointers in a span of less than a minute to put SPC ahead 30-24. The Texans ended up taking a 50-40 lead into halftime.

The SPC lead grew to 14 (58-44) with 17:23 left in the game, but Temple slowly started creeping back in the game. The Leopards pulled with 3 (78-75) with 4:20 remaining, but another three by Okorie put the Texans ahead 85-76 with 3:23 left in the game.

In addition to Okorie's 27 points, Steven Harley added 18, Jermaine Bolden and Lu Griffin each had 14, Constantin Motnii scored 9, Jonathan Hall had 8, and Luciana de Souza added 2.

SPC will take on Collin County on Sunday at 3 p.m., as the tournament shifts to the Texan Dome in Levelland.
