SPC Men Beat WTC For 20th Win
LEVELLAND– After falling behing 6-0, the No. 20 ranked South Plains College Texans used a 23-2 run to take control and cruise to a 68-55 win over the Western Texas College Westerners Monday night at the Texan Dome.
South Plains (20-5 overall, 9-2 conference) only scored one bucket in the first 6 minutes of the game, but used an 8-0 run followed by a 13-0 run to go ahead 23-8 with 7:25 left in the first half. Western Texas was able to claw their way back to within 7 (32-25) at halftime.
SPC turned up the defense to begin the second half, holding the Westerners to just one field goal in the first eight minutes. That allowed the Texans to increase their lead to 48-27. South Plains led by as many as 23 in the second half and ended up winning by 13.
For the 15th time this season, Steve Harley led SPC in scoring with 14 points, while Nick Okorie added 13, Jermaine Bolden scored 11, Constantin Motnii had 9, Luciano DeSouza scored 8, Lu Griffin pitched in 7, Jonathan Hall had 5 and Justin Brown added 1.
Wayne Burton led WTC with 17 points.
The Texans will go back on the road Thursday when they travel to Clarendon College for a 7:50 tipoff.
