Nunnellee Second at Frank Phillips Rodeo
PERRYTON – South Plains College freshman Jamie Nunnellee placed second in break away roping at the Frank Phillips College Rodeo this past weekend in Perryton.
Nunnellee (Aumsville, OR) had a time of 3.3 seconds in the first round, then came back with a time of 3.2 seconds in the short round for a total of 6.5, which was just three-tenths of a second off the first place time.
In tie-down roping, SPC sophomore Cody Jordan (Hobbs, NM) continued an outstanding spring season with a third-place finish. Jordan had a time of 9.7 seconds in the first round and 10.7 in the short round for a total of 20.4.
In goat tying, SPC sophomore T.J. Nash (Drayton Valley, Alberta) finished tied for fifth. She had a time of 8.8 seconds in the first round and 9.2 in the short round for a total of 18.0.
Three SPC cowboys made it to Saturday's short round. In team roping, Brian Johnson (Gruver) and Matt Switzer (Swift Current, Saskatchawan) had the third-fastest time (8.4 seconds) in the first round but got a no time in the finals. In bull riding, Ryan Shanklin (Rocksprings) scored a 74 in the first round.
The South Plains team will be back in action this Thursday through Saturday when they compete in Big Spring at the Howard College Rodeo.
