Johnson Places First at Vernon College Rodeo
VERNON – South Plains College freshman Brian Johnson (Gruver, TX) placed first in the Tie-Down Roping competition at the Vernon College Rodeo this past weekend.
Johnson had a time of 10.0 seconds in the first round, but came back with the fastest time of the short round (8.8) to finish with an overall time of 18.8. SPC's Jake Booze (Miami, TX) placed sixth with a time of 21.3 seconds. He had a 9.5 in the first round and an 11.8 in the short round.
In Break Away Roping, SPC sophomore Brandy Sladen (Keremeos, British Columbia) placed fifth. She had a time of 3.0 seconds in the first round and 4.1 in the short round for a total of 7.1.
In Steer Wrestling, SPC's Jeremy Krywcun (Landon, Alberta) placed sixth with a time of 17.8. He had a 4.2 in the first round and 13.6 in the short round.
Dana Weiser (Wheatland, WY) finished seventh in Goat Tying. She had a time of 8.2 in the first round and 9.4 in the short round for a total of 17.6. Stewart Kinley (Gladstone, Manitoba) made it to short round in Bull Riding, but came up with a no-score. He had a score of 75 in the first round.
The South Plains College team will wrap-up the fall season this weekend when they compete at the Texas Tech University Rodeo in Lubbock.
