Vierstra Finishes First at Weatherford Rodeo
WEATHERFORD – South Plains College freshman Cassie Vierstra tied for first place in Break Away Roping at the Weatherford Rodeo co-hosted by Weatherford College and Ranger College this past weekend.
Vierstra (Twin Falls, ID) had the fastest time in the short round (2.6 seconds) and came back with a time of 3.4 seconds in the short round for a total of 6.0 seconds.
In Tie-Down Roping, SPC's Chase Massengill (Santa Fe, NM) finished in fourth place. Massengill had a time of 10.3 seconds in the first round and had the third-fastest time (9.2) in the short round for a total of 19.5. SPC's Jared Sharp (Dayton, OR) finished seventh with a total time of 21.1 seconds. He had a 10.2 in the first round and a 10.9 in the short round.
In Goat Tying, SPC's Kelcy Ward (Ocola, FL) finished ninth with a total time of 20.7 seconds. She had a 9.6 in the first round and 11.1 in the short round. Vierstra finished tenth with a total time of 23.2 seconds. She had a 9.7 in the first round and 13.5 in the short round.
In Barrel Racing, SPC's Ginger Hathcock (Colorado Springs, CO) finished seventh with a total time of 34.87 seconds. She had a time of 17.37 in the first round and a 17.50 in the short round.
In Bull Riding, SPC's Stewart Kinley (Gladstone, Manitoba) scored a 73 in the first round but received no score in the short round.
The South Plains rodeo team will be back in action this weekend at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
