Rodeo Wraps Up Weekend in Snyder

SNYDER – The South Plains College rodeo team had a successful three days in Snyder while competing at the Western Texas College Rodeo Apr. 3-5.

Cassie Vierstra (Twin Falls, ID) continued her strong freshman year with a third-place finish in goat tying. Vierstra had a time of 7.5 seconds in the first round and came back with a time of 7.9 seconds in the short round for a total of 15.4, which was just two-tenths of a second from first place.

In tie-down roping, freshman Jake Booze (Miami, TX) finished fifth with a total time of 21.6 seconds. He had a time of 10.1 in the first round and 11.5 in the short round.

In steer wrestling, sophomore Cody Jordan (Hobbs, NM) placed sixth thanks to a time of 4.6 seconds in the first round.

Also making it to Saturday's short round were freshman Jamie Nunnelle in break away roping and freshman Ginger Hathcock in barrel racing. Nunnelle (Aumsville, OR) had a time of 2.1 seconds in the first round and a no-time in the short round. Hathcock (Colorado Springs, CO) had a time of 13.92 in the first round and 14.04 in the short round, which was good for seventh place.

The team will head north to Perryton to compete in the Frank Phillips College Rodeo this weekend.
