SPC Track Pair Signs
A pair of South Plains College Lady Texans track and field athletes signed letters of intent with four-year schools Wednesday.
Lillian Badaru (Uganda) picked Ohio State University, while Renee Shepard (San Antonio) chose Texas State University.
Badaru finished second at 2006 NJCAA Cross Country championships and was part of 2006 national champion cross country team. She holds the SPC indoor record in 3000 meter run (9:53.60) and 5000 meter run (17:43.44). She placed second in the 5,000 meter run and third in the 10,000 meter run at 2007 NJCAA National Outdoor Meet and was named 2007 NJCAA Outdoor All-American. She also placed second at 2007 NJCAA Cross Country championships.
Shepard, who attended Converse Judson High School, holds the SPC outdoor record in the 4x400 meter relay (3:44.69) and the indoor record in 4x400 meter relay (3:54.63). She placed first in 4x100 relay, second in the 4x400 relay and third in the 100 meter dash at 2007 NJCAA Outdoor Championships. She is a three-time 2007 NJCAA Outdoor All-American.
The SPC track and field team will compete in the Michael Johnson Invitational this weekend in Waco. They have meets left at the University of Oklahoma and the University of New Mexico before hosting the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 15-17. |
