Quow Places 7th at Olympics
Current South Plains College student Renny Quow finished seventh in the men's 400 meter dash at the Beijing Olympics in China. Quow, who helped lead SPC to the 2008 NJCAA National Championship, is representing his home country of Trinidad/Tobago.
Thursday, Quow ran in the finals and placed seventh with a time of 45.22 seconds in some tough track and weather conditions. His time was just 0.42 seconds away from the bronze-medal time.
Tuesday, Quow finished fourth in his heat of the semifinals with a time of 44.82 seconds.
Monday, Quow finished second in his preliminary heat with a time of 45.13 seconds.
Andrae Williams, a former SPC track and field star, was a part of the Bahamas' men's 4x400 meter relay team that won a silver medal with a time of 2:58.03.
Former SPC standout Isa Phillips competed for Jamaica in the men's 400 meter hurdles. He placed third in his heat with a time of 49.55 seconds, but did not qualify for the semifinals.
