Texans, Lady Texans Compete at Sooner Open
NORMAN – The South Plains College track and field team competed against some of the Big 12 Conference's best this past weekend at the Sooner Open in Norman, Okla.
Athletes from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Kansas competed along with South Plains, SMU, Oklahoma Baptist, Emporia State, Johnson County and New Mexico Junior College.
Several SPC athletes set school records. Meagan Willingham broke her own school record in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:21.07. She finished in second place. Stephanie Simpson broke her own school record in the women's 200 meter dash with a time of 23.66 seconds. She finished third in that event. Chris Johnson re-set the record in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 175 feet, 4 inches. He finished fourth.
Lillian Badaru placed first in the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 17:30.41. In the women's 4x400 meter relay, the SPC team of Edina Brooks, Stephanie Simpson, Karen Thomas and Angelina Williams placed first with a time of 3:47.31. Fred Samoei placed first in the men's 1500 meter run with a time of 3:52.52. In the men's 4x400 meter relay, the SPC team of Rodney Campbell, Damon Douglas, Sean Troop and Latoy Williams placed first with a time of 3:10.77.
In the women's 100 meter dash, Stephanie Simpson was second (11.77), Allysha Wilson was seventh (12.45) and Renee Shepard was ninth (12.59). In the women's triple jump, Asiya Iskakova placed second (39-7.25). In the women's 4x100 meter relay, the SPC team of Karen Thomas, Stephanie Simpson, Renee Shepard and Allysha Wilson placed second (46.15).
In the men's 200 meter dash, Renny Quow was second (21.16), Bryce Brown was sixth (21.79) and Guistino Fyfield was 17th (22.79). In the men's 800 meter run, Fred Samoei was second (1:49.05), Sharif Webb was fifth (1:51.64), Mitchell Driver was 12th (1:56.27), Chicanel Cole was 15th (1:56.61), Michael Hernandez was 18th (1:58.05), Chris Salazar was 24th (2:00.26) and Calvin Dascent was 28th (2:03.99). In the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, Mitchell Driver placed second (9:39.22). In the men's 4x100 meter relay, the SPC team of Sean Troop, Thaddeus Gordon, Rodney Campbell and Bryce Brown placed second (40.68).
In the women's 1500 meter run, Florence Jepchirchir was third (4:43.94), Gladys Chumba was sixth (4:52.57) and Crystal Dickinson was ninth (4:59.70). In the women's 400 meter hurdles, Samantha Hallman was third (1:02.72) and Brittany Warminski was eighth (1:09.71). In the women's 4x400 meter relay, the SPC team of Brooke Randle, Jasmine Rollins, Renee Shepard and Brittany Warminski placed third (3:59.47). In the women's high jump, Asiya Iskakova was third (5-5) and Marianne Wheeler was fourth (5-3).
In the men's 400 meter dash, Latoy Williams was third (47.20), Rodney Campbell was fifth (47.59), Damon Douglas was seventh (48.18) and Lester Liburd was 15th (52.16). In the men's 110 meter hurdles, Bryce Brown was third (14.89) and Malcolm Anderson was fifth (15.29). In the men's high jump, Marlon Smith was third (6-8.75) and Kendrick Poullard was fourth (6-8.75). In the men's discus throw, Zach Morgan was third (144-3).
In the women's 400 meter dash, Crystal Wilson was fourth (56.19) and Edina Brooks was sixth (56.40). In the men's 5000 meter run, Javier Perez was fourth (15:53.48). In the men's long jump, Marlon Smith was fourth (24-2.50). In the men's shot put, Koby Parker was fourth (46-5.25), Chris Johnson was fifth (45-6.50) and Zach Morgan was seventh (42-9.50).
In the women's 800 meter run, Angelina Williams was fifth (2:14.71), Florence Jepchirchir was 10th (2:21.77), Gladys Chumba was 11th (2:24.82), Crystal Dickinson was 12th (2:28.78) and Meagan Willingham was 14th (2:34.35). In the men's 100 meter dash, Andre Salmon was fifth (10.79), Mike Charles was ninth (11.49) and Guistino Fyfield was 11th (11.66). In the men's 4x400 meter relay, the team of Calvin Dascent, Sharif Webb, Michael Hernandez and Chris Jones placed fifth (3:24.14) and the team of Chicanel Cole, Mitchell Driver, Lester Liburd and T.K. Revis placed seventh (3:24.94). In the men's triple jump, Kendrick Poullard was fifth (48-6).
In the women's 100 meter hurdles, Samantha Hallman was sixth (15.37) and Brooke Randle was eighth (18.17). In the men's 400 meter hurdles, Thaddeus Gordon was sixth (54.30) and Stephon Beckford was seventh (54.79).
In the women's shot put, Shatoya Brown was seventh (44-2.75), Destiny Collier was ninth (39-6) and Melinda Bendik was 11th (37-11.5). In the women's 200 meter dash, Renee Shepard was eighth (25.12) and Brooke Randle was 17th (27.43). In the women's discus throw, Melinda Bendik placed eighth (135-0). In the women's hammer throw, Melinda Bendick placed eighth (145-6).
In the women's javelin throw, Brooke Randle was ninth (86-2). In the men's 1500 meter run, Javier Perez was 10th (4:16.95). In the women's long jump, Asiya Iskakova was 14th (17-5.5) and Renee Shepard was 15th (17-3.25).
