Texans, Lady Texans Ready for National Track Meet

LEVELLAND – The South Plains College men's track and field team will defend their national title, while the Lady Texans team will look to make school history this weekend as SPC hosts the NJCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Levelland.

The SPC men shared the team championship with Central Arizona last year and both schools will have strong teams again this year. The Lady Texans finished second at last year's national meet. That was their best showing in school history.

Both the SPC men and women will have plenty of chances to score points. The Texan men will have 34 entries at the national meet, while the Lady Texans will have 37.

The meet begins Thursday, May 15 at 10 a.m., with the women's heptathlon. The men's decathlon events will start that day at 11 a.m. The women's 10,000 meter run is scheduled for that night at 8 p.m., with the men's 10,000 meter run to follow at 8:45.

Multi-events will start back up Friday at 9 a.m., with field events beginning at 10 a.m., and continuing throughout the day. Running events will start at 2 p.m., with the women's 3,200 meter relay and will continue until the final race Friday night at 8 p.m. On Saturday, field events start at 9 a.m., and running events begin at 1 p.m. Team awards should be presented at 5:30 p.m., on Saturday.
