SPC Does Well at Texas Relays

AUSTIN – The South Plains College track and field team had five first-place finishes at the prestigious Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this past weekend on the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Darrell Roddick placed first in the men's triple jump with a leap of 52 feet, 2 inches. He also placed first in the men's high jump college division with a leap of 7 feet, 1/2 inch. That allowed him to compete in the university division where he placed second overall with the same jump.

Bryce Brown placed first in the men's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 50.75 seconds. The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Andre Salmon, Thaddeus Gordon, Rodney Campbell and Bryce Brown placed first with a time of 40.32 seconds. Also, the SPC men's sprint medley relay team of Andre Salmon, Thaddeus Gordon, Rodney Campbell and Bryce Brown placed first with a time of 3:21.12.

Two school records were broken at the meet. Fred Samoei placed fourth in the men's 1 mile run with a time of 4:00.94, which is a new record. Also, the women's sprint medley relay team of Karen Thomas, Allysha Wilson, Stephanie Simpson and Angelina Williams placed tenth with a time of 4:05.28 to set a new record.

In the men's 4x400 meter relay, the SPC team of Latoy Williams, Thaddeus Gordon, Chris Jones and Renny Quow placed third (3:08.29). In the men's 100 meter dash, Rodney Campbell placed fourth (10.63). In the men's 110 meter hurdles, Bryce Brown placed fourth (14.72).

This week, the SPC multi-event athletes will compete at the Angelo State Multis on Thursday and Friday. The entire SPC team will compete at the Texas Tech Open on Saturday.
