HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER

Terry Lehmann

Terry Lehmann is beginning his first year as head athletic trainer at South Plains College.

Lehmann spent the past three seasons as the head athletics trainer at UT Arlington, serving as the primary trainer for men’s basketball as well as overseeing the remainder of the Mavericks’ 13 men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletics sports.

Prior to UTA, Lehmann served as an associate athletic trainer and instructor at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Lehmann earned a bachelor of science, physical education and exercise science with an emphasis in athletic training at Michigan State University in 1997. He received his masters of science in physical education from Texas Tech University in 2000.

Prior to working at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Lehmann’s primary responsibility was the football program while serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Wayne State University from 2001-02, an athletic trainer intern with the Miami Dolphins Football Organization (1999-2000) and a graduate assistant at Texas Tech from 1997-99. At Tech, he was responsible for the women’s softball and volleyball programs and was the head football graduate assistant athletic trainer for one season. As a student athletic trainer at Michigan State, he worked with the Spartan football team, men’s tennis, track and field and women’s soccer.

In addition, he has work experience at the Convenant Medical Center (2000-01).

He is a member of the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Lehmann is married to the former Andrea Followill of Lubbock, Texas. The couple has a daughter, Katherine (4).

Student Trainers

Todd Rodriquez begins his third year as a student athletic trainer for SPC. Todd has traveled and worked with all the sports teams at SPC. Todd is a Pre-Physical Therapy major. He is the son of Paul Rodriquez. In his high school years, Todd worked as a student athletic trainer at Estacado High School in Lubbock.

 

 

 

 

 

Danielle Jones, a freshman from Sundown High School, is the daughter of Barry and Johnnie Jones and is beginning her college career as a student athletic trainer this year. Danielle is a Pre-Occupational Therapy major. In high school, Danielle was involved in National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council and was a student athletic trainer.

 

 

 

 

 

Micaela Baez, a freshman from Stamford High School, is the daughter of Joe and Elizabeth Baez and is a first-year student athletic trainer. Micaela is a Physical Education major. In high school, Micaela was involved in Student Council and National Honor Society. She also ran track and cross country.

 

 

 

 

 

Chris Young is a first-year student in the Master's of Athletic Training program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Health and Human Performance from St. Mary's College of California. He served as an athletic training student for SMC for one year, working with the Gaels men's and women's basketball teams, women's volleyball team, men's and women's soccer teams and women's lacrosse team. Chris is a Dublin, California native and hopes to also earn a Master's of Physical Therapy and aspires to work as a head trainer at either the collegiate or professional level.

Linsey Smith is a first-year student in the Master's of Athletic Training program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Central Missouri. She served as an athletic training student for UCM for three years, working with the Mules football, wrestling and basketball teams and the Jennies volleyball team. Linsey hopes to one day work with an orthopedic surgeon and assist in surgeries. She is a native of Albany, Missouri.

Axel Melindez is a first-year student in the Master's of Athletic Training program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He holds a Bachelor degree in Athletic Training from the University of Puerto Rico where he served as an athletic training student and worked with the volleyball team. He also served as an athletic training student at Catholic University of Puerto Rico for one year and worked with the basketball team. In addition, Axel worked as an athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach during spring training with the Texas Rangers Major League team. He plans to work in the NBA as an athletic trainer once he finishes his Master's degree. He is a native of Puerto Rico.
