Lady Texans Open Season With 111-63 Win
The South Plains College Lady Texans set a school record for 3-pointers made and opened their season with an easy 111-63 win over Colby (KS) Community College at the Breakfast Rotary Classic Friday in Levelland.
South Plains (1-0) hit 14 3-pointers and shot 61 percent from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Mariame Djouara also set an SPC record with seven 3-pointers, five of which came in the first half as the Lady Texans raced out to a 59-30 halftime lead.
Djouara finished with a career-high 33 points and added 8 rebounds for the Lady Texans. Sophomore post Brittany Blackmon added 24 points, while freshman Shaniqua Henderson scored 12 points and sophomore Ashley Frazier added 11 points and 10 assists. Also for SPC, Rachel Gray had 9 points, Chasity Workman added 8, Krystal Davis scored 6, Haruka Nagado and Desiraye Broome each added 3, and McKensie East had 2.
For Colby (0-2), Angel Curry led the way with 10 points.
The Lady Texans will take on Northern Oklahoma Saturday at 5 p.m., in the final game of the tournament.
