Lady Texans Down Collin in Region V Quarterfinals

BELTON – The South Plains College Lady Texans lost a 17-point lead but was able to hang on at the end for a 77-70 win over Collin County Community College Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region V Tournament at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton.

Against Collin, the Lady Texans had a 39-28 lead with 3:44 remaining in the first half, but the Lady Cougars cut it to 3 (39-36) before a 3-pointer by Krystal Davis sent SPC into the locker room with a 42-36 advantage.

In the second half, the Lady Texans increased their lead to 17 (55-38) with 14:30 remaining. They were still up by 10 (69-59) with 3:26 left before Collin made a run to get within w (70-68) with 56 seconds left. But the Lady Texans hit five free throws in the final 30 seconds to preserve the win.

Brittany Blackmon scored 17 points to lead SPC, while Ashley Frazier added 16, Chasity Workman had 12, Krystal Davis scored 10, Mariame Djouara and Rachel Gray both had 9 and McKinsie East added 4.

For Collin County, Amber Murray scored 22 points and Porsche Revely added 18.
