Blackmon's Double-Double Lifts Lady Texans

South Plains College sophomore post Brittany Blackmon scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the No. 6 ranked Lady Texans to a 67-54 win over the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen Thursday at the Texan Dome in Levelland.

The win was the 17th straight for the Lady Texans, who improved to 19-2 overall and 8-0 in WJCAC play.

South Plains started strong, racing out to a 20-10 lead midway through the first half. Their lead grew to as much as 17 (31-14) later in the half before Frank Phillips used a mini-run to get back within 10 (33-23) at halftime.

The Lady Plainsmen continued to chip away early in the second half. They pulled within 4 (38-34) with 15:08 remaining in the game and were still only down 45-40 with 8:58 remaining. But SPC held Frank Phillips to just one field goal in the final 3:25 of the game to pull out the 13 point win.

Ashley Frazier added 17 points for the Lady Texans, while Mariame Djouara scored 16, Chasity Workman had 7 points and 15 rebounds, Rachel Gray scored 6 and McKinsie East added 1.

For Frank Phillips, Julia Pantsuikh scored 12 points.
