Lady Texans Open Conference With Win
BORGER – Ashley Frazier hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead the South Plains College Lady Texans to a 73-41 win Thursday over the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen in the WJCAC opener for both teams.
South Plains (8-2 overall, 1-0 conference) played stellar defense in the first half, holding Frank Phillips without a point for the first 5:13 of the game. The Lady Plainsmen only managed six field goals in the first half as SPC jumped out to a 29-16 halftime lead.
Frank Phillips (10-2, 0-1) pulled within 9 early in the second half, but the Lady Texans used an 18-2 run to go ahead by 25 with 10:44 remaining in the game. During the run, Brittany Blackmon had three baskets, Frazier nailed a 3-pointer, Rachel Gray had a pair of buckets, and Mariame Djouara added a field goal.
In addition to Frazier's 20 points, Blackmon added 16, Djouara had 10, Chasity Workman scored 9, Shaniqua Henderson had 8, Gray added 4, Haruka Nagado had 3, McKensie East scored 2 and Lindsey Lawless added 1.
For Frank Phillips, Julia Pantsuikh scored 13.
The Lady Texans will play their first home game in a month when they host nationally-ranked Midland College Monday at 5:30 p.m.
