South Plains Downs Northern Oklahoma 78-63

The South Plains College Lady Texans improved their record to 2-0 with a 78-63 win over Northern Oklahoma College Saturday at the Breakfast Rotary Club Classic in Levelland.

South Plains nevcr trailed in the game and had a 29-point lead at one point in the second half before Northern Oklahoma (1-2) battled back to cut the final margin to 15.

The SPC defense was stellar in the first half as the Lady Texans raced out to a 43-29 halftime lead. Northern Oklahoma shot 28 percent in the first half and only converted on seven field goals.

Chasity Workman came off the bench to lead SPC in scoring with 17 points. She also had a team-high 12 rebounds before fouling out late in the game. Mariame Djoura added 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Ashley Frazier had 12 points and 9 assists. Also for SPC, Brittany Blackmon and Krystal Davis each scored 8, Shaniqua Henderson and Haruka Nagado both added 5, Rachel Gray had 4, Lindsey Lawless had 2 and McKensie East added 1.

For Northern Oklahoma, Brianne Grisham scored 15 points and Bethany McBride added 13.

The Lady Texans will travel to Temple College Thursday to face the Lady Leopards.
