Lady Texans Beat Odessa, Improve to 16-2

ODESSA – One week after being named NJCAA National Player of the Week, South Plains College sophomore guard Mariame Djouara started a bid for a repeat. Djouara scored 28 points as the Lady Texans defeated Odessa College 83-62 Monday in Odessa.

The win was the 14th in a row for the No. 9 ranked Lady Texans, who are now 16-2 overall and 5-0 in WJCAC play.

South Plains started slow, scoring only one field goal in the first five minutes of the game. After trailing early, the Lady Texans managed to battle back to take a 35-32 lead at halftime.

The second half was a different story. SPC held Odessa to 27 percent shooting from the field in the second 20 minutes and outscored the Lady Wranglers 48-30.

For South Plains, Djouara led the way with her 28 points, Ashley Frazier added 18 points and 13 assists, Brittany Blackmon had 14 points, Haruka Nagado came off the bench to score 8, Chasity Workman and McKinsie East both added 7 and Krystal Davis scored 1.

The Lady Texans will not be back in action until Jan. 24 when they host Howard College.
