Lady Texans Have No Trouble With Odessa
The South Plains College Lady Texans moved a step closer to a conference championship with a 75-49 win over the Odessa College Lady Wranglers Thursday at the Texan Dome.
The Lady Texans (22-3 overall, 11-1 conference) have a one-game lead over Midland College with two games remaining. SPC can clinch at least a share of the title with one more win or a Midland loss. The Lady Texans don't play again until Feb. 25 at Howard College.
Against Odessa, the Lady Texans trailed by 4 early on before closing the half strong. A 12-0 SPC run over a 6 minute stretch gave them a 27-14 lead. The Lady Texans outscored Odessa 22-7 in the final 11 minutes of the first half to take a 35-21 lead into halftime.
South Plains quickly pushed their lead to 20 early in the second half as Haruka Nagado scored 6 straight points. The Lady Texans led by as many as 33 in the second half.
Nagado came off the bench to score 21 points for the Lady Texans. She hit 4 of 6 on 3-pointers and was a perfect 3 of 3 from the free throw line. Mariame Djouara added 16 points for SPC, while Brittany Blackmon had 10, Chasity Workman scored 8, Rachel Gray and Ashley Frazier both had 6, and McKinsie East and Krystal Davis each added 4.
For Odessa, Priscilla Mbiandja scored 16.
