Blackmon, Djouara Named WBCA All-Americans
Two South Plains College Lady Texans basketball players have been selected for the prestigious 2008 Junior College/Community College State Farm Coaches' All-American Basketball Team.
SPC sophomore post Brittany Blackmon was named first team All-American, while sophomore guard Mariame Djouara was named honorable mention All-American.
Blackmon (Clovis, NM) was named Western Junior College Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player and was named to the NJCAA All-Region V team. She averaged 16.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures in 26 games and finished the season with five double-doubles.
Djouara (Ivory Coast) was also named to the All-Region team and was a first team All-Conference selection. She averaged 14.2 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. She scored in double figures 18 times and set the Lady Texan record for 3-pointers in a game with seven
This year's team marks the first State Farm Coaches' All-American Team, as Eastman Kodak held the previous sponsorship for 25 years. Selection committees in each of the nine WBCA geographical regions select 10 of the top women's basketball players in the nation to be honored.
