Lady Texans Prevail vs 11th Ranked Western Nebraska
Colby, KS - The 12th ranked South Plains Lady Texans opened up the Ambassador Classic in Colby, KS against Western Nebraska, who is ranked 11th in the NJCAA.
After a tight first half, the Lady Texans led 24-23 at halftime. However, in a game that featured twelve lead changes and nine ties, Western Nebraska began the second half with a 15-6 scoring run that gave them the largest lead of the game 39-29.
The Lady Texans never gave up and fought back for a one point victory, 54-53.
Sophomore guard Chasity Workman led the way for the Lady Texans, scoring 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Freshman Sajoyia Griffin added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Rachel Gray helped South Plains' cause with seven points and six rebounds. Also for South Plains, Tasheena Byrd and Briana Goss scored six points each, while Goss added seven rebounds, Taniqua Ards scored three points, and Dayon Hall-Jones added one.
The Lady Texans (4-0) next play tournament host Colby at 6:00PM today. South Plains defeated Colby 91-68 when they hosted the Levelland Breakfast Rotary tournament last week.
