Lady Texans Prevail After Two Overtimes

Midland, Texas - The seventh ranked South Plains College Lady Texans held off a feisty New Mexico Junior College squad by a score of 89-84 in the first round of the WJCAC pre-conference tournament hosted by Midland College. With the victory, the Lady Texans advance to the winners bracket to play Odessa College today at 5:30 p.m. Odessa defeated Western Texas 79-36 to advance.

South Plains was led by freshman Dayon Hall-Jones and Taniqua Ards. Hall-Jones scored 22 points shooting 6-of-13 from the field and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Ards also scored 22 on 10-of-15 shooting and also pulled down 10 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures was sophomore guard Chasity Workman. Workman scored 11 poionts and grabbed nine rebounds. Also for SPC, Sajoyia Griffin and Rachel Gray each scored nine points. Gray added five assists and five steals. Samiesha Williams tallied eight points and six rebounds, Tasheena Byrd scored five, and McKinsie East added three.
