Lady Texans Rout Northern Oklahoma on Day Two of Rotary Classic
LEVELLAND - The Lady Texans were dominant early and often against the Northern Oklahoma Lady Mavericks as they cruised to an 83-48 victory at the Texan Dome. The Lady Texans are now 2-0 on the season.
After jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead, the Lady Mavs closed to within four points. However, that was as close as Northern Oklahoma would get as South Plains went to the locker room with a 45-15 lead.
The Lady Texans came out hot in the second half as well by outscoring their opponent 15-2 in the first five minutes. The Lady Texans led at one point by 45 points.
Freshman Taniqua Ards led South Plains with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Dayon Hall-Jones also scored in double figures with 16 points, which included nailing 2/3 from long range. Rachel Gray added 9 points for the Lady Texans, while Chasity Workman scored 8 points and brought down a team leading 13 rebounds. Also for South Plains, McKinsie East scored 7 points, Tasheena Byrd added 6, Lashanda Luckey put up 5 points, Briana Goss and Christen McLee each chipped in with 4, and Samiesha Williams added 2.
In earlier action, Temple College dominated Colby College 85-46.
The Levelland Breakfast Rotary Classic continues Sunday, November 2, at 1:00PM with Colby(KS) College taking on Northern Oklahoma. The final contest will be between the Lady Texans and Temple College. Tipoff for South Plains and Temple is scheduled for 3:00PM.
