Strong Second Half Propels Lady Texans Past Odessa

Midland, Texas - The seventh ranked South Plains College Lady Texans once again saw a tough opponent at the WJCAC pre-conference tournament at Midland College. In this second round game the opponent was Odessa College, and the Lady Texans went to the locker room trailing by four points at halftime. However, South Plains outscored Odessa by 11 in the second half to come away with another victory. The Lady Texans are now 10-0 on the season.

Freshman post and Lubbock, Texas native Taniqua Ards once again led the way for the Lady Texans. Ards scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while sophomore Rachel Gray added 13 and Dayon Hall-Jones scored 11. McKinsie East and Samiesha Williams added eight points each. Williams also snagged eight rebounds. Sophomore Chasity Workman added seven points, and grabbed nine rebounds, six of those rebounds offensive. Also for SPC, Sajoyia Griffin scored seven and Tasheena Byrd added five.

This victory puts the South Plains women in the championship game and they will face tournament host Midland College at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
