SPC Women Defeat Temple 75-62 to Close Out Rotary Classic
LEVELLAND - It took the South Plains women a little more than five minutes to put points on the scoreboard, but when they did the Lady Texans did not look back.
Temple College began the game by jumping out to a 7-0 lead. By the midway point of the first half the Lady Texans pounced on Temple with a 17-3 run of their own and never trailed again. South Plains ended the half with a 38-31 advantage.
The Lady Texans began the second half in fine fashion by outscoring the Lady Leopards 17-4 in the first eight minutes of the second half, stretching their lead to as many as 21 points in the game.
South Plains had five players scoring in double figures, led by freshman Taniqua Ards with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Chasity Workman contributed to the Lady Texan cause in a big way by adding 13 points, and bringing down a game leading 14 rebounds. Dayon Hall-Jones, Tasheena Byrd, and Briana Goss each scored 12 points for South Plains, with Hall-Jones adding 5 assists, Byrd hitting four three pointers, and Goss adding 8 rebounds. Also scoring for the Lady texans was: McKinsie East with 4, Rachel Gray added 2 points, and Christen McLee scored 1.
The Lady Texans ended the Levalland Breakfast Rotary Classic with a record of 3-0, and will now prepare for the Colby (KS) Classic November 6-8.
The 1:00PM matchup on the final day of the Rotary Classic was a close game with Colby (KS) College holding on for an 86-84 victory over Northern Oklahoma.
