Lady Texans Rout Western Texas College

SNYDER, Texas – The South Plains College Lady Texans opened up the first ten minutes of conference play in sluggish manner, even trailing the Lady Westerners 14-9 11 minutes into the game.  South Plains did heat up very soon after that and defeated Western Texas by 29 points, 80-51.  The victory improves the defending champions of the WJCAC record to 12-2 overall and 1-0 in WJCAC play.

Freshman guard Sajoyia Griffin came off the bench to lead South Plains with 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting and dished out seven assists.  Lubbock native Taniqua Ards had another strong showing for the Lady Texans scoring 16 points, while Rachel Gray and Chasity Workman also had double figure scoring nights with 15 and 10 points, respectively.  Workman just missed a double-double, pulling down 9 rebounds.  Also for SPC, Dayon Hall-Jones and Lashanda Luckey each added four points, Samiesha Williams scored three, while Lindsey Lawless, Christen McLee, and McKinsie East each score two points.

The Lady Texans will face Odessa College at the Texan Dome for their second conference game, and the first at home.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
