SPC Lady Texans Clock Clarendon
CLARENDON – The No. 1 ranked South Plains College Lady Texans scored 48 second-half points to run away with an 86-51 win over Clarendon College Thursday in Clarendon.
The Lady Texans improved to 27-0 overall and 11-0 in WJCAC play. SPC will face a tough test Monday when they travel to Odessa to face No. 5 ranked Odessa College.
SPC never trailed against Clarendon, although it took them a little while to get going. Brittany Blackmon scored 13 first-half points and Mariame Djouara added 12 as the Lady Texans broke open a close game early and raced out to a 38-24 lead at halftime.
The second half was all SPC. Clarendon never got closer than 16 in the final 20 minutes. After only scoring one bucket in the first half, sophomore post Dominic Seals hit six in the first 10 minutes of the second half as the Lady Texan lead grew to 28 (65-37). They led by as many as 38 before finally winning 86-51.
Djouara had 22 points to pace SPC, while Ashlee Roberson scored 17 and Seals added 15 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Also for the Lady Texans, Blackmon finished with 15 points, Ashley Frazier had 8 points and 6 assists, Alana Rumph scored 7, and Courtney Miller added 2.
For Clarendon, Latoya Josey scored 14 points.
