Lady Texans Win Opener 76-46
LEVELLAND — The No. 15 ranked South Plains College Lady Texans opened the 2006-07 season with a convincing 76-46 win over Colby (KS) College on the first day of the Breakfast Rotary Tournament in Levelland.
SPC (1-0) never trailed in the game and raced out to a 42-22 lead at halftime thanks in large part to the play of freshman post Brittany Blackmon, who scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the first half.
Sophomore Dominic Seals added 16 points and five rebounds for the Lady Texans, while freshman Ashlee Roberson scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Also for SPC, Mariame Djouara and Ashely Malone each added six points, Ashley Frazier scored five, Alana Rumph had four, Aminata Barry had three, and Courtney Miller and A.J. Adams each added two.
For Colby (0-1), Jacci Tinkel scored 14 and Katie Jones added 13. The Lady Trojans were just 7 of 28 on 3-point attempts.
In the other game Thursday, No. 8 ranked Central Arizona College raced past Northern Oklahoma College 89-53.
On Friday, Colby will take on Northern Oklahoma at 5 p.m., with South Plains College facing Central Arizona at 7. Both games will be played in the Texan Dome on the SPC campus.
