Lady Texans Rally Past Frank Phillips 54-48

It wasn't pretty, but the South Plains College Lady Texans opened up conference play with a 54-48 win over the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen Saturday at the Texan Dome in Levelland.

The Lady Texans (17-0 overall, 1-0 conference) trailed 22-20 at halftime and were down 27-20 less than 2 minutes into the second half. SPC used a 9-0 run to go ahead 29-27 and never trailed after that.

The game was tied 42-42 with 4:48 left in the game, but field goals from Mariame Djouara and Alana Rumph helped the Lady Texans go up by 5. Rumph and Ashley Frazier both made a pair of free throws in the final minute to allow SPC to hang on for the hard fought win.

Rumph led SPC with 15 points, while Dominic Seals added 13, Djouara scored 7, Brittany Blackmon had 7, Ashlee Roberson added 6, Frazier scored 3 and Ashely Malone had 2.

For Frank Phillips (9-5 overall, 0-1 conference), Katiya Jackson scored 12 points, while Nasim Ahmadzadeh and Sasha Monreal each added 10.

The Lady Texans will travel to Midland College to face the Lady Chaps Monday.
