Lady Texans Stay Tied For First Place

LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Lady Texans stayed atop the WJCAC standings with a 52-38 win over the Howard College Lady Hawks Monday at the Texan Dome.

South Plains is now 28-1 overall and 12-1 in conference play. The Lady Texans wrap up the regular season Thursday at New Mexico Junior College.

SPC never trailed in the game and had a 10-point lead (17-7) less than 10 minutes into the game. The Lady Texan defense held Howard to just five made field goals in the first half, but the Lady Hawks were 8 of 10 from the free throw line as SPC took a 26-19 lead into halftime.

Howard never got closer than 7 in the second half. The Lady Texans quickly pushed their lead to 12 after a field goal and three free throws by Ashlee Roberson. SPC held Howard without a point for almost 5 minutes as the lead grew to 16.

Roberson finished with 18 points to lead SPC, while Dominic Seals added 13 points and 11 rebounds, Ashley Frazier scored 7, Alana Rumph had 5, Brittany Blackmon added 4, Ashely Malone had 3 and Mariame Djouara scored 2.

For Howard, Candace Lambert and Kandace Griffin each scored 8.
