Frazier's Shot Lifts SPC Into Semis

BELTON - Ashley Frazier hit a jumper with half a second remaining to help the third-ranked South Plains College Lady Texans to a 60-56 come from behind win over McLennan Community College Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Region V Tournament at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

South Plains (30-1) will face Weatherford College in the semifinals Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

McLennan, who had led by as many as 7 in the second half, used a 3-pointer by Joshlyn Stewart to tie the game at 56-56 with 8 seconds remaining. After a timeout, the Lady Texans inbounded the ball to Frazier who drove the length of the floor and hit a 15-foot jumper from the right wing with 0.5 seconds remaining to put SPC ahead 58-56.

McLennan wasn't able to inbound the ball and tried to call a timeout, but they were out of timeouts and were accessed a technical foul. Dominic Seals hit both free throws for the Lady Texans for the final margin of four.

The Lady Texans trailed for most of the game thanks to poor shooting. They shot only 26.7 percent in the first half and trailed 31-26 at halftime. They started to heat up from the floor in the second half, making 14 of their 23 shots. But they still trailed up until the 6:27 mark of the second half when Ashlee Roberson hit a shot to put SPC ahead for good.

Brittany Blackmon led SPC with 14 points, while Roberson added 12 and Mariame Djouara and Dominic Seals each scored 10. Also for the Lady Texans, Frazier and Alana Rumph scored 6 and A.J. Adams added 2.

For McLennan, Vivian Nwosu led the way with 10 points.
